In this show I will be exhibiting a series of works from my Mexico Series. These pieces reflect the love I have for my cultural roots and my artistic evolution over the last eight years. I hope you can join me to share this growth and to kick off the exhibition on September 13. Invitation below:

Michael Gillespie of Crandall, TX has two pieces in the Richeson75 Figure/Portrait exhibit at the Richeson Gallery in Kimberly, WI, September 16-October 25.

He will also have one piece in Sunnyvale First Baptist Church's Art Festival, Worship Creatively," August 25-31. Reception: August 24, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The show will also be on display at Lavon Drive Baptist Church, September 8-15.

Carol Devereaux of Dallas, TX, will have a pastel portrait, "Vincent", in the American Women Artist's 16th National Juried Exhibition at the RS Hanna Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. Hers was one of only 60 selected out of 857 entries. Opening reception November 1.

Gene Dillard of Plano, TX has a summer exhibit at the Courtyard Theater in Plano. Includes portraits and his Cowboy Pop pieces. The theater is the site of Country Western concerts throughout the summer.

RAIL STATION STUDIOS EXHIBT AT COURTYARD THEATER 

The Courtyard Theater is hosting a special exhibit featuring artist Gene Dillard and photographer Gaby Pruitt.

In the lobby area, an exhibit of the unique "Cowboy Pop" paintings of Gene Dillard add a bold splash of color to the contemporary theater setting. The very large canvasses are a tribute to Western comics of the 1940s and 1950s.

The exhibit is on view daily and will be the visual focus for events scheduled at the Theater during the summer. As a continuation of the Downtown Face-to-Face project initiated by the Historic Downtown Plano Association, a selection of paintings and photographs will be exhibited at the Courtyard Theater for 12 weeks this summer. The paintings and photographs by Rail Station Studios artists Gene Dillard and Gaby Pruitt were created to celebrate the character and characters who occupy the colorful downtown Plano district. The collection was donated to the Assistance Center of Collin County and 100% of proceeds from sales go to support the work that the Center provides to the citizens of Collin County.

Ann Kraft Walker of the Woodlands, TX, will have six paintings in Insight Gallery's Fall Show, opening September 6. She will also have a painting in OPA's Western Regional Show and one In Cumberland Society Juried Exhibition in Nashville.

Anna Rose Bain of Garland, TX has had her painting, "Twin Arts," juried into the International Guild of Realism's 8th Annual International Juried Show.

Her piece, "Nurturer," has been accepted into the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Club 117th Annual Open Exhibition October 1-25, 2013 at the National Arts Club in NYC. She has also had two pieces accepted into the Richeson75 Portrait/Figure competition.

Houston Meet-and-Greet a Smashing Success!

Saturday, June 29 - Houston area artists (as well as a few from Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio!) gathered at the iconic Cadillac Bar in Houston, TX for our annual Meet-and-Greet! There were 20 people in attendance, including members Alix Dunn, Beverly Chemin, Francis Huang, Sheila McGraw, Kim Abbati, Kirsten Coco, Delaram Izadpanah, Lenore Prudhomme, Pam Schrader, Rhonda Lanclos, Suzanne Taylor, and Suzie Baker. Non-members were also welcome to attend, and those who came enjoyed the meeting very much. The table was abuzz with excited conversation about networking and art-making. Our demo artist was PSOA member and 2013 Certificate of Excellence winner, D.K. Richardson. She brought several of her original pastel and oil paintings for attendees to admire (it's always wonderful to see the originals in person!), and gave a wonderful demonstration on steps to finishing a painting. She had two images on display to show "before" and "after" applying finishing touches. The demonstration was interactive, with a lot of helpful Q&As. 

As TX ambassador, I'd like to give a huge thanks to D.K. Richardson for sharing her time, talents, and wealth of information with fellow artists. I'd also like to thank Lenore Prudhomme, who found the venue for us and reserved our space.

The Meet-and-Greet was a hit and we are already looking forward to our next event, possibly in San Antonio in the fall. Stay tuned!

Artist Spotlight: Lenore Prud'Homme

Artist Biography:

Artist Lenore Prud'Homme

Lenore Prud'Homme is of French and Italian heritage, born in Louisiana, but grew up in Odessa, Texas and claims Texas as her home. She graduated from Permian High School and received a full scholarship in art to the University of Texas in Austin, where she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in sculpture and drawing. Lenore was the first student at The University of Texas to cast in bronze.  After college, the  well known  sculptor , Charles Umlauf  became her mentor, and in the summer of 1969 she was given one of Mr. Umlauf’s commissions for a bust of the Director of the American Red Cross.

Years of modeling and drawing the human form developed her passion for figurative work and portraits.

Lenore was hired by the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio as a medical illustrator from 1969 – 1973. Four years there exposed her to the inner workings of the human form as well as graphic and scientific illustrations.

After a 33 year marriage,  2 children and numerous philantrophic endeavors as a pioneer in The Woodlands, Texas in the early 80’s, Lenore found an old abandoned farmstead in Round Top, Texas and set about creating  her 3 dimensional canvas called the Outpost @ Cedar Creek Inn. Here she fulfilled a hidden talent for restoration , design and hospitality.

Her efforts have been acknowledged in numerous publications and she has won several awards in the hospitality industry.  Her inn was selected by the number 1 travel book, 1000 Places to See Before You Die. The inn has recently been purchased by Rachel Ashwell of Shabby Chic Couture, and Lenore has set up a studio in Houston, Texas to begin her commissioned portrait work and figurative painting.

She has come full circle and is more passionate than ever about her figure and portrait work.

Interview with Spotlight Artist for May, Lenore Prud'Homme:

1) When and how did you first became seriously interested in art? I started my love of art very early as a child doing paint by number kits of all things, on my bedroom floor. When I had an opportunity to take art classes in school, I was hooked and rather quickly gained a reputation.

2) What is your training, and what medium(s) / subject matter do you work in? I was fortunate to have had a full scholarship in art to The University of Texas in Austin. I wanted to get my degree in painting , but , alas, the department was too avant garde for me and I ended up majoring in sculpture and drawing, hence my love of the figure and portraits. I find myself, this late in life, having the time, now to devote to honing painting skills. My love is oil medium.

3) What do you express in your work? As my work evolves, I am constantly attempting to incorporate the elements that I admire in other artists' works and from study in selective workshops. I am beginning to realize that my portrait style is becoming fresh with a breath of air.

4) What artists/professionals have been your  biggest influences? My greatest admiration is for Sargent and his ilk, who is everyone's paradigm it seems. I am in awe of the works of Schmid.

5) What do you do to gain new inspiration for your work? My inspiration , now that I have time to devote to my art, is drawing, drawing and more drawing. Workshops are my interest currently, to learn as much as I can from differing executioners. The model and figure are forever an inspiration.

6) What would you like to be doing with your art ten years from now? Hopefully, 10 years from now, my diligent effort will bring forth a portrait that is second nature to execute to where I can continue to explore possibilites. I hope to have commissions lined up, especially of children.

7) Do you set goals for yourself concerning the making of your art? My goals are to continue to draw and gain a reputation as a fine artist.

8) Are you happy with your job choice as an artist? Do you have any regrets in this career choice or things you would have done differently?  I am realizing that professional artists are some of the happiest people I encounter. Those who are on the journey seem frustrated and must keep searching. I am in the early stage of art as a career, even this late in life, but I finally have the time to give it the attention it demands to reach my goals.

9) Any fun or interesting facts about yourself that you'd like to share? I weave my art into my daily life in many ways: decorating, designing anything, cooking, sewing and dressing.

10) Best piece of advice for other artists?  Draw, draw, draw, work, work, work.

The Woodlands Art League is excited to offer this extraordinary artist for a week of professional art instruction. Dates: Monday June 24 -- Friday June 28, 2013 This workshop will be open to all levels of Pastel Artists and Oil Artists. We will have 3 days of Portraiture instruction with live models and 2 days of Plein Air instruction.


We are offering three options as listed below:

Option 1: Full five days of instruction

Option 2: Three days of portraiture instruction

Her work has been shown in such venues as The National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Cahoon Museum of American Art, and the Butler Institute of American Art. She has been featured in International Artist, Pastel Artist International, American Artist, The Pastel Journal, The Artist's Magazine, and the books, Best of Portrait Painting and Best of Pastel (North Light Books), "100 Ways to Paint People" (International Artist), and Portrait Highlights (American Artist).
